Samsung has been doing a great job in the affordable segments this year with its Galaxy A and M series phones. The Galaxy M40 and A50 have been the popular choices under Rs 20,000, offering premium designs and latest features. In a bid to captitalise on its popularity, Samsung is now expected to launch another new model in the M series to keep the momentum going during the festive season in November.
According to a new tip from Ishan Agarwal, Samsung is apparently working on a new smartphone for the mid-range segment. It is expected to be called the Galaxy M90 and given that M40 already touches the Rs 20,000 mark, this could be close to Rs 30,000 mark. The leak doesn’t specify any details about the phone apart from the name of the handset.
Now, the Galaxy M40 was essentially a reworked version of the Galaxy A50 with newer tech trends. The A50 offered a slightly modern hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera and gave up the Exynos chipset in favour of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chipset. This made the Galaxy M40 a great option or those looking to get a feature-rich phone under Rs 20,000.
With the Galaxy M90, we are expecting that Samsung could simply base it on the Galaxy A70. It could most probably feature the Snapdragon 730 chipset and a big 4000mAh battery with Samsung’s 25W fast charging option. Given that M series phones rely on a plastic unibody construction, Samsung could stick to a glossy plastic finish to keep costs down.
Where things could differ is the screen. Samsung could use an AMOLED screen with a hole-punch cutout for the front camera and could also incorporate the in-display fingerprint sensor. As for the cameras, there are chances that Samsung could push to offer a quad-camera setup at the back to keep it relevant in its class. The rear camera setup could incorporate a regular high-res camera, a wide-angle camera, a telephoto camera and a depth sensor.
The launch is expected to happen around Diwali and Samsung could give its rivals from China a tough fight.
