Samsung Galaxy A series in 2020 will come with major camera upgrades, roadmap leaks out

A little while ago, we had reported about Samsung’s naming plan for the Galaxy A series next year. Samsung will continue to go with the double-digit naming scheme for its Galaxy A lineup, calling next year’s phones Galaxy A11, A21, A31 and so on until A91. Beyond the names, nothing was known about next year’s Galaxy A phones, but a new leak now tells us that we should expect some major camera upgrades to the series in 2020.

Tipster Sudhanshu Ambhore leaked a purported roadmap that details what each Galaxy A phone will bring next year as far as cameras are concerned. Starting from the Galaxy A21, Samsung will include at least triple camera systems, which doesn’t really come as a surprise as the company has been steadily trying to make triple camera the default system on most of its Galaxy phones this year already.

As per the leaked roadmap, the Galaxy A21, A31 and A41 will come with triple rear cameras. The A21 will feature a 13MP main camera, 8MP wide-angle lens and 5MP depth sensor. The A31 and A41 will come with 16MP and 24MP primary cameras, respectively, while the wide-angle and depth sensor remain the same across all three devices.

Starting with the Galaxy A51, Samsung will look to make quad cameras the staple all the way through to the A91 by adding a telephoto lens into the mix. The Galaxy A51, for example, is said to come with a 32MP main camera paired with a 12MP wide-angle camera, 12MP telephoto lens and 5MP depth sensor. The Galaxy A61 will feature a 48MP (Main) + 8MP (Wide) + 10MP (Telephoto) + 5MP (Depth) configuration where the 48MP sensor could either be Sony’s IMX586 or Samsung’s own GM1 sensor.

The Galaxy A71 to Galaxy A91 will replace the depth sensor with a ToF camera, as per the roadmap. The A71’s quad camera system will include a 48MP + 12MP + 12MP + ToF combination. Meanwhile, the Galaxy A81 is said to come with a 64MP primary sensor, which we believe will be Samsung’s 64MP GW1 sensor that will first come to Realme and Redmi phones this year.

Lastly, we have the Galaxy A91, which will rock the newest 108MP ISOCELL Bright HMX sensor that Samsung announced a few days ago in partnership with Xiaomi. The A91’s quad camera will also include a 16MP wide-angle camera, 12MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and ToF camera.

There is no way to verify whether this leaked roadmap is true, so it is best to take it with a hint of salt. But it does give us an idea of what Samsung might be planning for its Galaxy A series next year.
