amsung is holding an event on April 10 where the company is expected to announce the Galaxy A90. A lot has been said about the Galaxy A90 from its design to hardware. Many believe that this will be Samsung’s first phone to come with a rising camera. Pop-up camera phones have been growing in number, mostly with a typical design that sees a mechanism rise for the selfie camera. But Samsung could be onto something unique with the Galaxy A90. What if the Galaxy A90 sports a slider mechanise with a rotating camera? This is being suggested in a new concept video and an alleged specs leak.
Samsung Galaxy A90 may come with pop-up rotatory camera
A concept video of the Galaxy A90 surfaced online earlier this week that offers a 3D mockup of the device based on past leaks, rumours and concept renders posted by AllAboutSamsung a while ago. The video shows a Galaxy A90 with an edge-to-edge, bezel-less and notchless display, which Samsung may call the Notchless Infinity display. Without a notch or a punch-hole, Samsung will rely on an innovative pop-up rotating camera mechanism.
What this means is that the top part of the rear panel that houses the primary dual camera setup will rise up like a slider, and the camera module in the slider will be able to rotate independently from the back to the front. This rotating camera design allows the dual rear cameras to flip and be used as selfies cameras, removing the need of having a separate front camera sensor.
The design is certainly something we haven’t seen before, but it has its advantages and disadvantages. For one thing, the rotating camera design means you will be able to use a powerful primary camera for selfies. As per a specs leak this week on Weibo, the Galaxy A90 will sport a 48MP dual camera setup, perhaps using the Sony IMX586 sensor. So the rotating camera system will let you use this ultra detailed 48MP camera for selfies, which sounds great, if true. A disadvantage to this design is that we now have two moving parts instead of one, leading to more risks to damage.
The specs leak on Weibo reiterated the pop-up rotary camera design shown in the concept video, suggesting the design is final, but you should still take it with a pinch of salt. The tipster also offered some key specs of the Galaxy A90.
Samsung Galaxy A90 key specs leak
According to the specs dump on Weibo, the Galaxy A90 will sport a large 6.7-inch FHD+ (2400×1080) Super AMOLED display. In addition to the 48MP dual camera setup, the camera module is also said to get a ToF (Time of Flight) camera for depth mapping, and this would come in handy for both primary and selfie portraits.
The Galaxy A90 is tipped to be powered by a yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 7150 chipset, which is expected to be the successor to the Snapdragon 710. Additionally, the premium mid-range Galaxy A device is tipped to get a screen sound technology rather than an earpiece, much like the Huawei P30 Pro, and support for 25W fast charging. The handset is said to measure 76.5mmx165.0mmx9.0mm and weigh 219 grams.
That’s pretty much all we know about the Galaxy A90 for now. Samsung will unveil the Galaxy A90 on Wednesday, April 10, where we will know for sure whether the phone indeed sports a pop-up rotatory camera.
